Horsemanship Classes

  

At Top Stride Equestrian Center is a full horsemanship
educational center. These classes assist riders with
understanding, developing more skills and harmony.  

Classes are offered for all ages. Special classes can be held for Pony Clubbers, 4-H or other groups wanting to add to their skills or prepare for level testing. 
 
Group Classes are $15 per person. For group classes, please allow time for 45 minutes to one hour depending on group size. 
 
Private Classes are $30 and are for 30 minutes. These classes offer one-on-one time to learn more about your favorite subjects.
 
  
We can offer you a tailored individual training and/or riding program to meet your specific needs and goals.

Horsemanship Classes:
Beginning Horsemanship 1 & 2

  

These two classes are to assist new riders in their grooming and tacking of their horse.
 
New riders and returning riders who want to brush up on their skills will want to attend.
 
These classes help the new rider to quickly acquire more skills so that they can spend more of their lesson time in the saddle.

  • How to Groom a Pony / Horse
  • How to Approach, Catch and Halter a Horse
  • How to lead and tie a Horse
  • Safety rules for handling the horse
  • How to Clean Hooves
  • How to check over a horse
 
 
CLASS: Basic Horsemanship 2
  • The Tack and Equipment
  • How to Saddle a Horse
  • How to Bridle a Horse
  • How to lead a horse
  • How to check your tack and equipment for safety
  • How to check for proper fit
  • How to adjust your stir-ups
  • How to correctly adjust girth
  • How to put on basic boots for horses
  • How to untack a horse
  • How to care for tack and equipment

 

Class Goal:

To be able to safely and correctly handle, groom, tack and untack a horse without assistance. To be able to adjust equipment as needed. To be able to check horse and equipment.

Horsemanship Classes:
Horsemanship 3 & 4

 


CLASS :  Horsemanship 3 
  • Parts of a horse, colors and markings
  • How to measure height and size of horse
  • How to wash a horse tail 
  • How to wash face, nose and ears
  • How to basic braid horse's tail
  • How to pull horse's mane

 

 
CLASS: Horsemanship 4
  • How to clean and take care of tack and equipment
  • Parts of the Saddle
  • How to measure Saddle size
  • Parts of the Bridle
  • How to take apart and put together a bridle (change bit or head stall)
  • How to put on other equipment (breast collar, martingale, blanket)
  • How to put on Polo Wraps
  • How to put on jumping or galloping boots

 

  

Class Goal:

To be able to identify parts on the horse, tack and equipment. To be able to put together a bridle. To be able to wash and braid a horse's tail. To be able to pull a horse's mane. To be able to measure a horse, put on a blanket and prepare horse for dressage or jumping.

Advance Saddle Fitting Class. 
 
 
 
 
 

CLASS :  Horsemanship 5 
 
  • Advance Saddle Fitting Class (goes beyond the basic saddle fitting to insure the best fit for horse and rider.)
  • Learn to identify problems from ill-fitting saddles.

  

Class Goal:

To be able to properly fit a saddle to a horse. To identify problems in saddle fitting. 

 

  • Classes offered in GROUP CLASSES only.
 
 
Horsemanship Classes:
Beginning Horsemanship 6 & 7

  

Prepare for the Dressage Show. 
 
 
 

CLASS:  Horsemanship 6
 
  • Proper attire for rider
  • How to prepare for a dressage test for rider
  • How to prepare for a dressage test for horse
  • How to prepare horse and rider for the show ring.
  • Show grooming 
  • Show Etiquette

 

CLASSES :  Horsemanship 7

  • How to braid main for the dressage show.

 

 

Class Goal:

For horse and rider to be prepared for the dressage show. To be able to have an excellent turn out for the dressage show.

Prepare for the Hunter/Jumper Show. 
 

CLASS:  Horsemanship 8 
  • Proper attire for rider
  • How to prepare for the hunter/jumper show
  • Show grooming & braiding
  • Show Etiquette

 

Class Goal:

For horse and rider to be prepared for the hunter/jumper show. To be able to have an excellent turn out for the show.

At Top Stride is the FIRST Equestrian facility, in the area, to offer these type of classes. We enjoy being leaders in our field and hope others will follow in our hoof prints. 
 
We place high priority on our students' correct training and education so we never skip a step.

At Top Stride - The Full Educational Center
 
     We offer riding lessons, unmounted classes on a wide variety of horsemanship subjects, clubs, camps, clinics and more. Students can learn to achieve their goals of learning the basics of horsemanship, ride safely on a recreational level, attend local shows, compete in Dressage and Eventing on National Levels or become a professional trainer.
